June 17, 2009 Visit – Meet-me Vaults

Installing concrete-encased meet-me vaults is a serious task. We have two vaults, and they’re located near the edge of the property. This makes it easier for carrier providers to come into the vaults from the major fiber trail running along the street, since they will not have to perform as much trench work to get to them.

June 16, 2009 Visit – Cross-connect Room

All those conduits from our trenches end up here, in the cross-connect room. When completed, it’ll be totally encased in concrete and located inside our meet-me room. And with a different geographic path coming from each trench, there is plenty of room for carrier providers to come in, exchange traffic, and connect to their own equipment out in the meet-me room.

June 15, 2009 Visit – Trenching

With a successful groundbreaking behind us, it’s time to start with the trenching. We’re going with schedule 40 conduits, with three innerducts inside each conduit. One trench contains eight conduits, and Phoenix NAP will have two trenches, one from each meet-me vault. This enables us to have up to 48 providers coming into the facility.

Plus, we’re filling in our trenches with slurry for added protection.

June 11, 2009 – Groundbreaking

Building a datacenter is a big project and a new facility is going to have an impact on a lot of people. To mark the start of Phoenix NAP’s build-out phase, we held a groundbreaking ceremony to give industry and community members a better understanding of our approach, and the benefits our size, location and design will provide.

As we toured through the 160,000 square foot facility, I was happy to field questions from industry colleagues. The City of Phoenix has been very supportive of our efforts and we were fortunate to have Don Maxwell and Denise Yanez of the City in attendance at our groundbreaking.

Welcome to the Datacenter Builder blog

I’m excited to have this opportunity to outline the progress of our builds and share news relevant to datacenters.
